Year 5 students stepped beyond the classroom this week to experience Italian language and culture in a real world setting for a unique learning opportunity. The group walked to Trattoria Benati in Noosa Junction, where their usual lesson transformed into an authentic and immersive experience.
For a time, the restaurant became their classroom. Students engaged with an authentic Italian menu and practised their language skills in genuine conversations, without the support of textbook prompts. They were challenged to identify their eating utensils in Italian, communicate with one another as much as possible in the language, and confidently order their meals entirely in Italian.
This hands on experience allowed students to connect language, culture and food in a meaningful way, deepening their understanding while building confidence in speaking and listening. Learning moved beyond theory, giving students the chance to apply their knowledge in a natural and engaging environment.
Huge thanks to staff for supporting the excursion and to Trattoria Benati for generously hosting the experience. Special thanks are also given to Samanta and Michelle and Chef Davide and his wife Barbara, whose warmth and enthusiasm helped make the visit both memorable and rewarding for all involved.
