Rationale
Homework is a means of providing opportunities for learners to participate in Mathletics, Reading Eggs and Reading at their individual level.
When teachers provide homework, the following approximate daily time allocations for our learners are:
Prep to Year 2 learners up to 15 minutes including reading
Year 3 and 4 learners up to 20 minutes plus additional time for reading
Year 5 and 6 learners up to 30 minutes plus additional time for reading
Please remember:
Homework includes practice in nightly reading.
Alternative homework may sometimes be set provided that time limits are not exceeded.
Homework is not intended to be a cause of tension or stress for families.
Parents/Carers are encouraged to also read with their children nightly as a means of developing positive attitudes to reading and enhancing language development.
Teachers are not required to set work for learners who are absent or on holiday during the term. Schools are not required to provide home-based learning options, unless there are specific circumstances impacting a learner’s attendance. The Education Queensland learning@home site is available for extra learning resources.
