Year 2 students recently rolled up their sleeves to make gli gnocchi as part of their Italian program. After learning in Year 1 about the important role food plays in Italian culture, this hands-on cooking day was a delicious way to bring that learning to life.
Thanks to funding and support from the Italian Language Centre, and with help from Sonia, Piero Cannizzaro’s dad, and local chefs Davide and Barbara from Trattoria Benati in Noosa Junction, the kids experienced real Italian cooking — from mixing dough to tasting their creations.
Davide, a former Sunshine Beach parent, was thrilled by the Sunshiners’ passion and knowledge for Italian language, culture and cuisine.
This fun and engaging program is just one example of how Sunshine Beach State School connects learning with real-world experiences giving students a head start on language and culture while making school exciting.
