Welcome to Sunshine Beach State School

It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to Sunshine Beach State School—a vibrant and inclusive learning community where every child is valued, supported and inspired to thrive.

Since opening in 1982, our school has built a strong reputation for delivering a high-quality education to all learners, including our valued international students. With a current enrolment of approximately 710 students from Prep to Year 6, we are proud to deliver the full breadth of the Australian Curriculum across the eight learning areas. Our dedicated and expert staff are committed to fostering deep learning and ensuring that all students have the opportunity to succeed.

Our academic outcomes, including Level of Achievement data and NAPLAN results, exceed regional, state and national benchmarks. However, what we value most is the strong sense of connection expressed through our School Opinion Survey data. Students, parents and staff agree - Sunshine Beach is not only a high-performing school, it's a Good Place to Be.

We are committed to nurturing the whole child - intellectually, emotionally, socially, physically, culturally and creatively. Our school culture is underpinned by high expectations, positive relationships, and a shared belief in the potential of every learner. Through the lens of Glasser's Choice Theory, we focus on fulfilling students' five basic needs - Belonging, Power, Freedom, Fun, and Survival - to create a supportive and joyful learning environment where students are empowered to take responsibility for their learning and behaviour.

At Sunshine Beach, we aim to develop learners who are:

  • confident and capable life-long learners
  • effective communicators
  • creative and critical thinkers
  • self-managed and happy individuals
socially and environmentally responsible global citizens.

As a re-accredited Glasser Quality School (2022), our staff are trained in Choice Theory, Reality Therapy and Lead Management. This framework enables us to build strong, respectful relationships and supports our belief that learning is most effective when students feel safe, connected and empowered.

Situated beside the stunning Noosa National Park, our school has a strong commitment to environmental education and sustainability. Our permaculture garden is a dynamic, hands-on learning space where students explore ecological systems, food production and sustainable living practices. This 'living classroom' connects directly with the Australian Curriculum, enriching our learners' understanding of biodiversity, interdependence, and the importance of caring for our world.

I look forward to partnering with families and the wider community as we work together to support every child to flourish and achieve their learning goals.

Elise Maguire (Principal)
