School Chaplains hold a unique position in the community.  Chaplains work with and complement existing school support services. Since Scripture Union Queensland first introduced a chaplain to a State school in 1990, chaplaincy Services have been implemented in more than 600 schools across Queensland.

Our chaplain is a positive role model and mentor for our students and facilitates care mechanisms to families in need, in our local school community. The School Chaplain provides optional services to support and care for student spiritual, ethical and emotional needs through pastoral care.

The Chaplain helps students find a better way to deal with a wide range of issues including social support, family issues and trauma response. They provide a listening ear for students in crisis and for those who just need a friend. Students must have parent consent to work with or receive individual support from the chaplain.

The partnership between the school and the chaplain, supported by local churches, businesses and community organisations, provides a network of local support and assistance. These positive relationships help young people to face issues, and provide hope, connection, meaning, and purpose.

Our Chaplain helps us to:-
  • Foster a supportive, caring school environment.
  • Connect with students and be a positive role model to them.
  • Nurture and care for students as a member of our support staff.
  • Support students at risk through behaviour management programs.
  • Support staff and families from the wider school community.
  • Serve the school community in a number of ways: including helping with sport activities and camps.
  • Provide spiritual support, if requested.
