Excellence opportunities

Our vision for every student is to ensure they are provided with opportunities to extend and enhance their learning.
We have a whole school approach to identifying and differentiating the curriculum for students, to enable us to cater for their specific needs.
Our policy and ideals are based around the Gifted and Talented Framework for Education Queensland.

Programs include:

Young Crest Scholars Program

For nominated students in Years 4, 5 and 6. Students participate in four ‘Excellence Days’ throughout the year at Sunshine Beach State High School in the area of STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics). The program is designed to provide enrichment opportunities for highly motivated students to further develop their skills in critical thinking, collaboration, creativity, communication and innovation.

Voices on the Coast Literary Festival

Held at the University of the Sunshine Coast (USC) where students engage with writers, illustrators and poets in exciting workshops and presentations.

Year 6 Readers’ Cup Competition

This program challenges our students to read widely, work collaboratively and continue to develop a love of reading.

Kids in Action Environmental Conference

This two day workshop is aimed at inspiring our future environmental leaders.

ICAS UNSW (International Competitions & Assessment for Schools)

These assessments are independent, skills based  with a competition element organised by the University of NSW for our students in Years 2 -6.

Sunshine Coast Mathematics Tournament 

Our high achieving Year 6 mathematic students are given an opportunity to test their skills against other students in the region in a stimulating and challenging environment.

Science Week Workshops

In partnership with Sunshine Beach State High School our Year 6 students are involved in a stimulating hands on experience in fully equipped science labs and innovative science workshops.


University of the Sunshine Coast (USC) offers various weekend workshops in the Arts, Sciences, Mathematics and Humanities.

Writing Competitions 

Various literary competitions encourage our aspiring writers an opportunity to develop their literary skills by entering various literary competitions.

STEM Workshops

Workshops which include challenging, real-world tasks aligned to the Australian Curriculum.

STEM ICT Workshop

The ICT workshops are designed to provide technology opportunities for highly motivated students in Years 4, 5 and 6 and develop their skills in computer science, digital design and web applications.

Extra-Curricular Activities/Clubs:

Chess and Checkers Club
Robotics: explores, creates and shares with WeDo’s (Lego kits). Students learn to creatively code. Offered to various year levels throughout the year.
STEM Club: for Junior years learning to construct, evaluate and communicate mini engineering and science challenges.
Our very talented team achieved third place in the 2017 Reader's Cup competition!Our year 4, 5 and 6 enjoying their STEM program.Our year 5 students enjoying the Voices on the Coast Literary festival at Sunshine Coast University.The Young Crest Scholars Program is an enrichment program at Sunshine Beach State High School for highly motivated primary students to develop their skills in critical thinking, communication, collaboration, creativity and innovation.
