Sunshine Beach students step back in time

History came to life this term with an exciting journey into the past at Caboolture Historical Village. Year 5 learners got to see first -hand what life was like for the colonists in the late 1800s. Beautifully restored buildings and cottages lined the streets in the village with charmingly manicured gardens making the surroundings a wonderful place for students to explore times gone by.
Village staff dressed in period clothing lead the students through a range of educational workshops explaining how different life was in past times. The blacksmith was another interesting workshop where students learnt about a trade that unfortunately no longer exists in Queenslandwith the last official blacksmith apprenticeship being in the 1960s. Students were fascinated to see red hot metal bend and be moulded into various forms.

One of the highlights of the adventure was definitely a train ride throughout the village, where unexpected bushrangers held the travellers to ransom, demanding their gold and firing guns with big puffs of smoke billowing out!

This excursion was not only entertaining and educational experience for the Year 5 students and a valuable culminating activity after studying Colonial Australian history.

History not only came to life but the students also took away many fabulous memories about yesteryear.
