New playground!

Kids have given the thumbs up to new playground equipment installed recently. The new playground replaces older structures that had been very well used over a long period of time but had begun to show signs that the used by date had passed.
HPE teacher Cameron Porter felt that the senior classes needed the challenge of climbing rather than playing. ‘I was keen to incorporate challenging climbing activities to encourage upper body strength development in addition to other traditional playground elements.’
The equipment is specifically designed to encourage activities which develop gross motor skills, upper and lower body strength and general active movement. There are plans on adding to the senior playground in the future to include parallel bars, which have proven to be extremely popular with the children creating fantastic games based around their use.
The school’s third playground – junior – is not being ignored as we are investigating more of a ‘play space’ theme interacting and building on the natural environment and with river beds and little bridges and tunnels. Little teepees and pretend fire pits are part of the plan to stimulate imagination and creative play.
