Fun times with Maths

7/08/2018

We love our Maths !

The last few years have seen some positive changes introduced via the introduction of the Australian Curriculum. The key teaching focus is on process rather than procedure. Learners are taught a variety of ways to solve problems and are encouraged to talk about how and why they chose to solve it a certain way. We aim for our learners to become flexible and creative thinkers who are happy to ‘have a go’. Having a positive mindset is a crucial part of this. We want every child to consider themselves a mathematician. Rather than giving up if they find something difficult, we teach them that a ‘state of confusion’ is part of the learning process which they pass through on their way to a solid understanding.
Many games such as chess, checkers, naughts and crosses, tic tac toe, connect 4, Sudoku, patience, battleship, backgammon and a variety of card games are some good ‘screen-free’ options to help your child develop problem solving and strategy skills in a fun and family friendly way. Happy playing!
